In what's being described as an Australian first, Delta Building Automation recently completed the installation of a Power over Ethernet (PoE) Building Management System (BMS) at 25 National Circuit, Canberra.
Why PoE?
Simplifying how power is connected to devices is one of the benefits of using PoE technology. Carrying the power along the Ethernet cable allows installers to do away with separate power infrastructures -- making the distribution of power, to hard-to-reach spaces, much easier.
As a result, the entire BMS installation is made simpler and the cost, per Ethernet port, is substantially reduced as the time demand on electrical technicians is minimised.
When Delta Building Automation (Australia) won the BMS Upgrade at 25 National Circuit for the Australian Trucking Association, we partnered with Optigo Networks to create a secure and robust Building Services Network (BSN). Optigo Connect, a suite of smart building hardware and software products for Operating Technology (OT) networks, more than delivered on this project with a scalable solution that restored the building network to perfection.
It's rare to find a PoE installation of this size anywhere, but Delta's commitment to embracing and implementing new technology is behind this retrofit.
Tim Davis, Director of Delta Building Automation, spoke recently about the significance of an installation this size for the BMS industry and our client.
"...the convergence of Building Automation and IT has required companies like Delta Building Automation to have solutions that are Smart Building ready.
Our Power over Ethernet solution consolidates Operational Technology with Fibre Networks. This is the future of Building Automation, it will ensure that Buildings are future-proofed and ready for the Internet of Things (IoT).
Delta's range of PoE devices has enabled us to provide Smart Building Solutions that meet with market expectations faster than some of our competitors."
25 National Circuit was the perfect site as it allowed Delta to install the PoE controllers, one-by-one, during work hours without having to take the entire BMS system down -- minimising interruptions to the client and tennants.
Making technological advances accessible to all clients early on is part of Delta's working ethos. Their engineering team is always on the lookout for buildings that can immediately benefit from their advanced technical solutions.
25 National Circuit is now reaping the energy and budget savings.
